There will be no local badminton players vying for honours at the Thailand Open on Sunday.
Suppanyu Avihingsanon (men's singles), Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai (women's doubles) and Bodin Isara and Maneepong Jongjit (men's doubles) all bowed out in the semi-finals of the US$350,000 World Tour Super 500 event at Nimibutr Stadium on Saturday.
Suppanyu was beaten by Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia 15-21, 12-21 in the men's singles semi-finals. Sugiarto goes on to meet Japan's Kanta Tsuneyama, who beat Sugiarto's compatriot Sony Dwi Kuncoro 21-13, 14-21, 23-21, in today's final.
Fifth seeds Jongkolphan and Rawinda fell to third seeds Misaki Matsumoto and Ayaka Takahashi 16-21, 17-21 in the last four of the women's doubles.
The Japanese pair will play Indonesian fourth seeds Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu in today's title match. The Indonesian pair upset second seeds Shiho Tanaka and Koharu Yonemoto of Japan 21-15, 21-18.
Bodin and Maneepong put on a spirited performance against world No.14 Hiroyuki Endo and Yuta Watanabe of Japan but eventually lost 21-19, 20-22, 10-21 in a match that lasted 70 minutes.
Endo and Watanabe will face Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda in an all-Japan men's doubles final today. The top seeds Kamura and Sonoda defeated third-seeded compatriots Takuto Inoue and Yuki Kaneko 21-19, 21-17 in the other semi-final.
Former world No.8 pair Bodin and Maneepong were back playing together for only the second tournament.
They were probably best known for their on-court brawl during the men's doubles final at the 2013 Canada Open.
Playing on opposing sides, Bodin attacked Maneepong during the match following a war of words.
Bodin was subsequently handed a two-year suspension by the Badminton World Federation but the ban was later reduced after an appeal and he was allowed to compete internationally since January 2015. Maneepong, meanwhile, received a three-month ban.
The women's singles final will be a battle between second seed Pusarla V Sindhu and fourth seed Nozomi Okuhara.
Sindhu of India struggled past Gregoria Mariska Tunjung of Indonesia 23-21, 16-21, 21-9 while Japan's Nozomi ended Zhang Beiwen's remarkable run with a 21-17, 21-10 victory.
In the mixed doubles semis, eighth seeds Hafiz Faizal and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja of Indonesia beat Lu Kai and Chen Lu of China 21-15, 21-16. They will meet top seeds Chris Adcock and Gabrielle Adcock in today's final after the English duo beat Taiwan's third seeds Wang Chi-lin and Lee Chia-hsin 21-16, 19-21, 21-7.
