INCHEON, South Korea: Thailand’s golfers will be hoping to get back into contention on Saturday, weather permitting, at the UL International Crown women's team tournament after a setback on Friday.
The United States topped Pool B after taking both its fourball matches from Thailand, and England led Pool A as an incoming tropical storm disrupted the eight-country tournament.
Jessica Korda and Michelle Wie of the US won 6 and 4 against Thailand's Moriya Jutanugarn and Pornanong Phatlum. Christie Kerr and Lexi Thompson won 4 and 3 over Ariya Jutanugarn and Sherman Santiwiwatthanaphong. The Thai side had begun the day atop Pool B after winning 3 of 4 points from Japan on Thursday.
England's Charley Hull and Georgia Hall beat Taiwan's Hsu Wei-ling and Teresa Lu 2 and 1.
Organisers brought forward Saturday's third round to avoid Tropical Storm Kong-Rey, which was closing in on Incheon, but darkness halted a wet day's play with eight matches still in progress on the Jack Nicklaus Golf Course.
In the Thailand-Sweden fourball contests, Moriya and Ariya were 3 up against Anna Nordqvist and Caroline Hedwall after 14 holes when play was suspended. Pornanong and Sherman were 2 down against Pernilla Lindberg and Madelene Sagstrom after 13 holes.
Spectators have been barred on Saturday to give staff a chance to prepare the course, which is expected to be drenched in the early part of the day, for competition. The earliest play could start is 2.30pm, organisers said.
"However, if we can't safely play golf on Saturday, the plan is to resume play on Sunday at 7am," the LPGA said.
Hosts South Korea trail England by a point in Pool A, while Sweden lie behind the United States in Pool B.
