A Thai Airways International flight to South Korea made an unscheduled landing in Hong Kong on Thursday so a sick passenger could be taken to hospital.

Kanchana Kathong, a passenger on TG656, posted on her Facebook page the plane was on the ground at Hong Kong International Airpot for two hours to disembark a sick male passenger. It then continued to South Korea.

The man showed sudden symptoms of illness less than one hour out from Suvarnabhumi airport on Wednesday night. He was assisted by doctors and nurses travelling on the flight, who gave him cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, she said.

His condition did not improve and the captain made a public announcement he was diverting to Hong Kong airport so the man could be taken to hospital, Ms Kanchana said.

The passenger's condition was not known.

Ms Kanchana said another passenger on the aircraft was also sick, but her conditions improved and she continued on to Seoul.

Flight TG656 left Bangkok 11.30pm on Wednesday. The flight was scheduled to arrive at Incheon airport at 6.55am on Thursday, but actual landing time in South Korea was 9am after the diversion to Hong Kong, according to flightstats.com, a website that tracks all flights.

THAI uses a Boeing 777 on the route.
