The Thai embassy in Jakarta is pondering ways of helping Thai nationals who may have been affected by an earthquake that hit the Indonesian island of Sulawesi and the massive tsunami that followed, according to a post on the embassy's Facebook page late on Saturday night.

The posting said the Thai embassy in Jakarta and the office of the honorary consul-general in Denpasar, Bali, were working with the Thai conglomerate, Charoen Pokbhand Indonesia, to assess the situation and the possibility of evacuating Thai people out of the areas hit by the earthquake and the tsunami.
The embassy initially issued an announcement directing affected Thais to the CP office in Palu for food, drinking water and emergency shelter.
The embassy earlier announced that 31 Thais in Palu were safe - 28 students and three company employees.
According to the latest announcement from the Indonesian disaster agency, at least 408 people have been killed and more than 500 injured by the earthquake and the tsunami.
The announcement said the Mutiar Sis Al Jufri airport at Palu will be reopened for commercial flights on Thursday, Oct 4, from 8am.
