Thai CrossFit star Uracha makes history of sorts

Uracha Teerawanitsan trains at her club.

Uracha Teerawanitsan has become the first Thai athlete to get an invite to participate in the 2019 World CrossFit Games in the United States.

The Aug 1-4 games in the American city of Madison, Wisconsin, will bring together some 150 top athletes from different countries across the world.

Uracha, a 23-year-old native of Bangkok, is widely considered the fittest woman in Thailand.

Her success story is no less than a fairytale.

Uracha was a known anorexic before she discovered the CrossFit discipline, which changed her life all together.

She became a part of the Thai team that took part in the CrossFit Pacific Regionals in 2015 before returning to the same event as an individual participant in the following years.

Uracha, according to the official World CrossFit Games website, had taken over the top ranking in Thailand in the year 2015, but she was only ranked No.24,252 in the world at the time.

The four-time Thailand national champion, who weighs 62kg and stands only 156cm tall, has made tremendous progress and is now ranked No.856 in the world.

Her achievements and commitment have impressed the organisers of the games and they have issued an invite to Uracha.

CrossFit is relatively a new discipline in Thailand but it already enjoys an established presence in many countries, especially in the United States.

CrossFit is a lifestyle characterised by safe, effective exercise and sound nutrition.

It is promoted as a mixture of both physical exercise and competitive fitness sports, incorporating elements from high-intensity interval training, olympic weightlifting, plyometrics, powerlifting, gymnastics, girevoy sport, calisthenics, strongman, and other exercises.
