Thai-British filmmaker and photographer Shane Bunnag is back, with his third solo photography exhibition, "Ruam Mitr Village".
In Ruam Mitr Village, scenes taken from old Thai films are superimposed on present-day images, a cross between grandiose and abandoned ruin. The images are paired with photographs of suburban wastelands. The space between melodrama, illusion and swamp sees the real and fictional morph into one until truth and delusion can no longer be distinguished from each other. These polar-opposite images demonstrate the contradiction of Bangkok's unfulfilled aspirations, of grotesque decadence and sprawling decay that are beautiful and surreal. Bunnag is currently based in Bangkok and Paris. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh. He is known for directing the Greek language feature All For Nothing, in 2006.
"Ruam Mitr Village" will be held at Galerie Oasis in Sukhumvit 43 from March 16 until April 21. The opening party is on March 16, 6-9pm. The gallery is open 11am-9pm. Get off at BTS Phrom Pong, exit 3, then take a short walk to the gallery.
