Thai boxing champion dies after being bitten by monster centipede

A former Thai boxing champion has died after he was bitten by a huge centipede.

Dokmaipa Por Pongsawang, 52, suffered complications after he suffered a bite from a giant centipede in Thailand.

His daughter Jiraporn Moonkaset said her father was bitten on his left leg, but didn’t seek medical treatment for the wound until he fell seriously ill, with chills and dizziness progressing into a full coma.

According to reporters, Dokmaipa had diabetes, causing more complications and contributing to his death.

He died Kalasin Hospital of severe blood infection, according to hospital director Pramuan Thaingamsilp.

Dokmaipa became a Muay Thai boxer when he was just nine and would go on to win championships, earning the nickname "Powerful Southpaw".

He returned to Thailand and in recent years worked as a municipal employee back home in Kalasin.

His funeral will be held in his hometown, Roi Et’s Saelapoom district.

A similar incident happened in Thailand last year after a 54-year-old woman died after being bitten from a centipede.

Chutikarn Worachote was bitten in her right foot and taken to hospital, where she was given and injection and medication, but suffered swelling when she returned home.

Her son found her dead in bed the next morning.
