When art talent from the East meets that from the West, the outcome is usually amazing, as in the case of the collaboration between Thai artist Torlarp Larpjaroensook and Danish artist Andreas Schulenburg. Subhashok the Arts Centre (SAC) has invited both artists to showcase their work in a duo exhibition titled "I-solated Being" from March 17 to April 22. This exhibition is supported by the Royal Danish Embassy in Thailand.
In his exhibits, Torlarp invites audiences to discuss the correlation between object and space. Ever-present in the works of Torlarp are reassessments of the value of functions, materials and locations. Schulenburg's Night, named for a common theme in the Dane's artwork, profoundly focuses on the imagination and its relationship to nature and culture. His exhibits hold a rather poetic sensibility. Many of the objects in his art radiate a hallucinogenic tone, putting the viewer in a mixed bag of emotions.

Danish and Thai cultures, though outwardly quite different in regards to climate and social norms, share a similar social attribute in their valuing of comfort and happiness in everyday life. Danish hygge and Thai sanook are two examples of words that represent a conscious effort by both cultures to value happy experiences. Though different in their communal setting, both expressions signify a focus on removing stress, being kind and enjoying the present moment. It was the famous Danish philosopher, Søren Kierkegaard, who remarked: "Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced", and this message rings true in this duo exhibition.
