Thai ace has 2nd title in sight

Ratchanok Intanon will be vying for her second title of the year at the BWF India Open today.

The Thai fourth seed overcame seventh seed Han Yue of China 21-15, 19-21, 21-18 in their women's singles semi-finals of the BWF World Tour Super 500 event at KD Jadhav Indoor Hall in New Delhi.

Ratchanok, the 2016 champion, will play Chinese third seed He Bingjiao, who beat Indian second seed PV Sindhu, the 2017 winner, 23-21, 21-18 in the second semi-final.

World No.8 Ratchanok won the Malaysia Masters in January and was a finalist at the German Open in February.

Ratchanok is the only Thai player left in the US$350,000 event after second seeds Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai lost to thrid seeds Chow Mei Kuan and Lee Meng Yean of Malaysia 21-18, 19-21, 19-21 in the women's doubles semi-finals yesterday.

The Malaysians will play Greysia Polii and Ariyani Rahayu in the final after the top seeded pair defeated fellow Indonesians Della Destiara Haris and Tania Oktaviani Kusumah 21-9, 19-21, 21-5.

In the mixed doubles title match, top seeds Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping of China will battle it out against fifth seeds Praveen Jordan and Melati Daeva Oktavianti of Indonesia.

Third seed Srikanth Kidambi of India was the first to make it to the men's singles final after beating Huang Yuxiang of China 16-21, 21-14, 21-19.

He will face second seed Viktor Axelson in the final after the Dane beat Kashyap Parupalli of India 21-11, 21-17.

PORNTIP IN LAST EIGHT

Thailand's Porntip Buranaprasertsuk defeated Maria Ulitina of Ukraine 10-21, 21-19, 21-14 in the women's singles quarter-finals of the Polish Open on Friday.

She was due to play China's Wei Yaxin for a place in the final of the $25,000 BWF international tournament.

Fellow Thai Kulavut Vitidsarn also made it to the men's singles semis after a 21-11, 30-28 win over Teck Zhi Soo of Malaysia. He was scheduled to meet China's Sun Feixiang in the last four.
