Thaddeus Moss’ reasoning for signing with the Redskins over the Patriots is simple

Randy Moss’ son, Thaddeus Moss had the chance to sign with the New England Patriots. That would’ve put Thaddeus on the same team and under the same coach (Bill Belichick) that once employed his father, Randy, who played in New England from 2007 to 2010.

Instead, Moss chose the Washington Redskins over the Patriots and the Cincinnati Bengals, who showed interest in signing the LSU tight end product after he went unselected during the 2020 NFL Draft. Moss explained to reporters that his rationale for picking the Redskins over the Patriots and Bengals was simple: Washington called him first.

While that seems like a wild way to make the choice, the undrafted free agency period is hectic. Teams may offer a contract before pulling it when the player calls back to say they’ll accept. There are only so many spots on a roster, and the interest may disappear if a player waits.

After going undrafted, Moss must have simply been happy to have a home and a job in the NFL. And maybe when rosters reshuffle before the 2020 season, Moss could land with New England on the practice squad.
