TGI Fridays takes over old city centre Gusto restaurant - but it won't be a TGIs as you know it

TGI Fridays is taking over city centre restaurant Gusto – and they're bringing a brand new concept to Glasgow.

The dining chain, which has its branch on Buchanan Street, has clinched a deal to become the new tenant of the former restaurant on Bothwell Street, close to Central Station.

The Herald reports it will become 63rd & 1st: a New York-inspired bar and restaurant named after the address of the original TGIs in Manhattan, on the corner of 63rd Street and 1st Avenue.

It's set to have a Manhattan loft feel with exposed brickwork, polished concrete, reclaimed timber flooring and bespoke fittings that have a 60s vintage vibe: But don't worry, you'll still get cocktails, classic food and a "party atmosphere."

CEO Robin Cook said: "We recognise in this new world that audiences are becoming increasingly discerning and their attitudes towards food and drink are evolving.

"There is a growing trend that people are drinking less and are more mindful of ingredients and their provenance.

"They are also growing accustomed to the members club and boutique hotel-style environments where they can work, rest and socialise.

"They are seeking local day to night venues that have a community vibe, where they don’t need to travel long distances to be able to enjoy the company of like-minded people."

An opening date for 63rd & 1st hasn't been confirmed yet, but when we know, you'll know.
