TG4 viewers hail Joe Quaid as an 'absolute legend' after latest Laochra Gael

TG4 viewers hailed Joe Quaid as an 'absolute legend ' after he got the Laochra Gael treatment on Thursday night.

The Limerick legend follows a long list of GAA legends to get hit 60 minutes of fame as he detailed his hurling career.

Quaid was net minder for Limerick between 1991 and 2002 and detailed the moment he felt was the beginning of the end after suffering a gruesome injury.

He said: "We're here in Kilmallock and the defining memory I have of this place is it tragically ended my career at inter-county level.

"It was probably the day my subconscious gave up on me and kept brining back bad memories what happened here on 27 April 1997.

"Just before half time, Laois got a penalty. David Cuddy took the penalty, lifted it, hit it, it hit the ground, I went down on the knees and I was after getting a belt into the testicle.

"It was only after the match I found out that it had exploded on impact."

Quaid would still go on to win a National League that year but retired in 2000 before reversing his decision but ultimately hanging up the boots in 2002.

And viewers were full of praise for Quaid after his appearance on the show.

One social media user said: "Another top show lads fair play @JoeQuaid is an absolute legend and a gentleman to boot. He's up there with Davy Fitz & Damien Fitzhenry as one of the top goalies of the 90s, which was a great era for hurling. @SportTG4 @TG4TV #LaochraGael"

While another added: "Fair play @JoeQuaid! Another brilliant episode of #LaochraGael on @SportTG4 Some family legacy and a family name that has defined hurling goalkeeping!"
