TG4 to show classic Republic of Ireland matches from the 1990 World Cup

TG4 are to show a number of classic World Cup matches over the coming weeks, including most of Ireland's games from Italia 90.

The station will broadcast a classic game every Friday, starting from May 1.

The first game shown will be the Republic of Ireland's historic first World Cup game - a 1-1 draw with England in the rain in Cagliari.

The Boys in Green's clashes with the Netherlands, Romania and Italy from the tournament also set to be broadcast but the dire 0-0 draw with Egypt, which sparked Eamon Dunphy's famous pen-throwing incident, will not be shown.

Other matches in the World Cup Gold series includes Ireland's 1994 clash with Italy and Argentina's matches against England and West Germany in the 1986 tournament.

The Republic's 1993 World Cup qualifier with Northern Ireland is also on the schedule of games to be shown.

World Cup Gold will be broadcast on TG4 every Friday evening at 7.30pm.

Here is the schedule so far, with more games to be announced in June:

May 1 Republic of Ireland v England, 1990 FIFA World Cup Group Stage

May 8 Republic of Ireland v Netherlands, 1990 FIFA World Cup Group Stage

May 15 Republic of Ireland v Romania, 1990 FIFA World Cup Second Round

May 22 Republic of Ireland v Italy, 1990 FIFA World Cup, Quarter Final

May 29 Republic of Ireland v Northern Ireland, 1993 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

June 5 Republic of Ireland v Italy, 1994 FIFA World Cup Group Stage

June 12 Northern Ireland v Spain, 1982 FIFA World Cup Group Stage

June 19 Argentina v England, 1986 FIFA World Cup Quarter Final

June 26 Argentina v West Germany, 1986 FIFA World Cup Final
