TfL Tube delays: Commuter misery as severe delays hit District, Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan Lines

Passengers on the London Underground are facing a tough commute with severe delays reported across four major lines.

The Circle and Hammersmith & City lines have both reported issues due to signal failures, while the District and Metropolitan lines are suffering as the result of faulty trains.

Early on Wednesday there was no service between High Street Kensington and Edgware Road as engineers worked to fix the issue on the District line.

The Circle line reported signal failures at both Gloucester Road and Hammersmith, which also blighted the Hammersmith & City.

The Metropolitan line said there was no service between Baker Street and Aldgate but a good service on the rest of the line.

Transport for London (TfL) is advising people to use their tickets if possible on local buses.

It comes as Londoners slowly begin returning to work as businesses gradually reopen their offices after months of lockdown.

Passenger numbers fell by about 90 per cent during the peak of the crisis, creating a £3.2 billion hole in TfL’s finances.

But the capital's new transport commissioner has vowed to get the city back on its Tube and buses.

Andy Byford said his two priorities for his first two years in charge were getting Transport for London back on an even keel financially - by restoring passenger numbers to pre-Covid levels - and getting Crossrail open.

"For the economic wellbeing of TfL, but also of the city, we have got to get people back onto public transport, and I am determined that we will do that,” he said.
