A man has been hailed a hero after rescuing a commuter who collapsed on to the Tube tracks during rush hour at Oxford Circus today.
Witnesses said the man leapt on to the tracks and pulled the person to safety moments before a train was due.
Onlooker Jill Wilding said everyone began screaming.
She wrote online: “Just witnessed a guy collapse onto the tube tracks at Oxford Circus just as tube was due! He was right under the middle track, dazed & couldn’t move. Panic &screaming from everyone!
“Hope the guy is ok!”
Another wrote: “I was on the Central Line going west when I saw someone on the tracks and everyone started screaming.
“Some brave guy jumped on the tracks and got them off.
“People were just shouting to alert the trains and a guy jumped before the alarms had been set off.”
British Transport Police confirmed the collapsed man was rescued by someone else during the incident at 9.15am today.
He said: “Someone else pulled them off the tracks and onto the platform. Both parties are being treated for very minor injuries.”
The incident led to delays for commuters, who shared pictures of busy train platforms across Central Line stations.
Transport for London confirmed there was a suspension in the service for around 10 minutes “because of a customer incident at Oxford Circus”.
The line closed at 9.15am and reopened ten minutes later.
