‘Textbook example of gaslighting’: Mike Johnson’s delusion reaches record levels of high as he blames the media for supporting the Dems

Mike Johnson refuses to accept that the majority of Americans believe the ongoing government shutdown is due to the Republicans. Instead, he is once again placing the blame on the Democrats and accusing the media of twisting the facts.

During a recent segment on Fox News, Mike Johnson made some outrageous claims while trying to divert blame from the Republicans for the government shutdown. When asked by the interviewer about an NBC news poll showing that 52 per cent of 1,000 registered voters blamed the Republicans for the shutdown, Johnson claimed that the polls were “all over the place” and suggested they were rigged. He stated that “the entire media establishment” is “parroting” the Democrats’ talking points. He also described the event as the most “staggering” level of “gaslighting” that people have “ever seen in American politics.”

Mike Johnson’s deflection strategies and his apparent lack of intelligence caught the attention of many online, who criticised him mercilessly. On X (formerly Twitter), these discussions were particularly widespread. One user on the platform commented:

“Mike Johnson’s claim that media coverage is “the most staggering level of gaslighting” in U.S. politics is itself a textbook example of gaslighting: a rhetorical inversion designed to deflect blame, distort reality, and reframe public accountability as partisan manipulation.”

Another person wrote:

“Mike Johnson’s statement is itself gaslighting. Rather than asking why 52% of Americans blame Republicans, he reframes the very measurement of public opinion as illegitimate.”

Several others shared similar opinions about Mike Johnson on X. It is appalling to me that he is blaming the media for portraying Republicans in a negative light and labelling it a “gaslighting” medium. Meanwhile, day after day, during the shutdown, he has continuously sought the attention of the press at the White House and criticised the Democrats while attempting to foster a Democrat-hating narrative. Now that his efforts seem to have backfired, it appears he has nothing positive to say about the media anymore.
