Texas (2-1) vs. Oklahoma State (3-0) Game Preview
Why Texas Will Win
This has all been good fun for Oklahoma State so far, but it hasn’t played anyone yet.
It hasn’t played LSU.
The Cowboy offense is balanced and dangerous, but the defense still isn’t stopping anyone, especially on third downs. The OSU D was fine against McNeese State, but Oregon State and Tulsa were able to keep the chains moving without too much effort.
Texas is converting on third downs against everyone, coming in at a 57% clip with an efficient offense that’s ripping through everyone, LSU included. In what should be another wild and crazy shootout between the two, on the road, Texas will be able to maintain more control over the game by owning the clock for almost 33 minutes – Oklahoma State doesn’t care about the time of possession battle.
The Cowboy pass defense isn’t giving up a whole slew of big plays, but it can be thrown on. However …
Why Oklahoma State Will Win
Tackling and pass defense are once against mere suggestions at Texas.
Joe Burrow made himself future NFL millions against the Longhorn secondary, and Rice last week was able to come up with enough decent throws to be annoying. So far, the Longhorns are dead last among Big 12 teams – hard to do – in pass defense, and they’re about to get hit hard this week, too.
Spencer Sanders has been terrific so far. The freshman quarterback is hitting 67% of his passes with seven touchdowns and a pick, Tylan Wallace and Dillon Stoner lead one of the nation’s most dangerous receiving corps, and Chuba Hubbard is averaging close to eight yards per carry on the ground.
The Cowboys are build perfectly to keep up with Sam Ehlinger and the Texas attack.

What’s Going To Happen
Both teams have the offense to make this a wild-and-crazy back-and-forth shootout, but Texas does it all a bit better. The Longhorns aren’t turning the ball over, they do a better job of controlling games, and they’re more proven considering how well they fought against an elite LSU team.
This has been a close, tight game in a few different ways over the years, and this will be yet another one. The Longhorns will be just a wee bit sharper in crunch time.
