Amid the destruction and chaos that tore through the city of Rowlett when tornadoes struck, comes a story of cheer and hope.
When the storm hit on Saturday night, Michael Delgado and his daughters were at a movie. His mother and brother hid in a closet at home.
Everyone was safe, but the family’s two pet dogs, a yellow labrador called Sawyer, and Lucy, a Miniature Pinscher, had disappeared.
But now word had emerged that the family had been reunited with the animals. The rescue of one of the dogs, tiny Lucy, was captured on film.
“Oh my gosh I have not been able to sleep these last few nights. I was just praying,” Gina Berkshier told NBC.
When the family members heard the noises of the two dogs, that began digging through the rubble. Eventually, they were reunited late on Monday.
Both dogs were checked by vets and found to be not suffering from any serious problems.
