Texas Tech (0-0) vs. Montana State (0-0) Game Preview
Why Montana State Will Win
The Bobcats come back loaded after a strong run in an FCS Playoff season – only getting knocked out by eventual national champion North Dakota State.
The main key was a fantastic offensive line that powered away for a great ground game and was a brick wall in pass protection. Four starters are back up front, Isaiah Ifanse has the potential to be one of the most dangerous backs in the FCS, and in all, eight starters return against what should be an okay Red Raider D, but hardly an elite one.
With nine starters back on defense, this is an experienced team that’s been in the big games. It’s not going to be freaked out by playing in Lubbock.
Why Texas Tech Will Win
It’s the first game under new head man Matt Wells, and he’s got the pieces in place to keep the offense rolling.
It stars with having a healthy Alan Bowman at quarterback. The receiving corps might need a little bit, but it’s going to be more than fine – it’s Texas Tech. Like it is for Montana State, the biggest strength will be an offensive line that gets four starters back and should do a bit more for the running game.
Defensively, load up against the Montana State running game, and the O slows. The Bobcats are breaking in a new starting quarterback on the road.
What’s Going To Happen
This will be a tougher game for Texas Tech than the next date against UTEP … for a little while.
Montana State will bring a good enough fight to keep this from being an easy run in Wells’ first game, but the Red Raider offense will be too good and too effective for a big first half stretch to take control. It’ll be more of a battle than the final score will indicate.
