Texas star Sharleen Spiteri takes break from world tours to check bins have been put out
The singer told how she can’t concentrate unless she knows her rubbish is going to be collected every Tuesday morning.
Spiteri said she calls home no matter where she is in the world to make sure her husband or daughter have put the bins out on the street at her home.
The 53-year-old frontwoman said she started the ritual a number of years ago and now can’t stop it.
She said: “Somebody was laughing at me because we did this big radio thing and we were in the middle of this dinner and I literally said, ‘Excuse me, I’ve just got to phone to make sure that the bins are getting taken out.’
“When I’m on tour I’m like, ‘Who’s remembering to take the bins out on a Monday night?’.”
Speaking on the BBC’ Headliners podcast, the singer said she shuns the celebrity lifestyle for a quiet life at her homes in London and Wales with her husband, Welsh TV chef Bryn Williams.
She said: “I love being out digging holes in my garden, doing my flowers and my plants and I love cooking.
“The number one priority is about writing great songs and nothing else really matters.
“I couldn’t give a hoot if I never did another interview in my life again or another photo session or went to another party.”
