The fire that sent smoke billowing Saturday afternoon from Globe Life Field will not delay the completion of the $1.2 billion future home of the Texas Rangers.
Manhattan Construction Co. said a limited area of metal decking will need to be replaced along with nearly 2,000 square feet of roof.
The first scheduled event at the Globe Life Field is a March 14 concert featuring Chris Stapleton and Willie Nelson. An exhibition game between the Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals is scheduled for March 23, and the first regular-season game is scheduled for March 31 against the Los Angeles Angels.
The Arlington Fire Department said the two-alarm fire was near the fifth floor and was started by sparks from a welder landing on combustibles stored below. Firefighters needed 37 minutes to contain the fire after first responding at 2:27 p.m.
No one was injured.
"The Arlington Fire Department has conducted significant preplanning and response training at the stadium through out the construction period," the department said in a release. "The existing working relationship with Texas Rangers and Manhattan Construction helped facilitate a quick and effective fire containment and control operation."
