Texas principal on leave after Facebook comment saying immigrants make US 'a dirty country'

A Lufkin, Texas, principal was placed on administrative leave after he was thought to have made a comment on Facebook describing the U.S. as "looking like Mexico and South America" with citizens "doomed to have a dirty country."

William Dugat had been Lufkin Middle School's eighth-grade principal until the district was made aware of the post Friday and placed on administrative leave pending investigation of the incident, district spokeswoman Sheila Adams said.

"We do not support or condone his actions or comments," Adams said in a written statement.

On Thursday, a woman posted a photograph of herself with Beto O'Rourke, who was making a campaign stop in the East Texas town.

A comment, which was made by a user named William Dugat, read: "I worry about the USA looking like Mexico and South America with so many illegal aliens welcomed."

Community members joined the Facebook debate, drumming up support for and against the principal.

"How can he adequately serve the needs of his non-white students as an open, proud racist?" Melissa Childs asked.

"He is supporting the law of the land," James Pyle wrote. "How is that grounds for suspension?"
