A military base in Texas has entered lockdown after reports of an active shooter.

Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, in the city of San Antonio, told people to "get out and away to safety".

Security services scrambled to the base at 6.15am local time on Thursday, just after midday BST, to reports of a shooter at large.

They have now neutralised the shooter but the base remains on lockdown, NAS Corpus Christi said on its Facebook page.

In a statement, the base said: "Naval Security Forces at NAS Corus Christi responded to an active shooter at approximately 6:15 a.m. this morning.

"The shooter has been neutralised. All gates on the installation remain closed while first responders process the scene.

"NCIS and local law enforcement are on scene. More information will be provided as it becomes available."
