Texas internal report shows working AC in visitor's locker room for LSU game; Del Conte: 'Swampgate has been put to bed'

The temperature in the Texas visitor's locker room for the LSU game was never higher than 74.7 degrees, according to a school internal inquiry this week.

A Texas source confirmed a report by 247Sports on Thursday.

LSU coach Ed Orgeron said the air conditioning was not working in the visitor's locker room during the Tigers' 45-38 victory on Saturday.

On the advice of Louisiana Tech, Texas' opening opponent, LSU brought blowers to circulate the air, Orgeron said. Louisiana Tech coach Skip Holtz said this week he didn't speak with anyone at LSU and didn't recall whether the visitor's locker at Royal-Memorial Stadium was too warm or not.

The Texas internal report, based on information from internal sensors and complete with detailed diagnostics like air flow in a spreadsheet format, indicated that the visitors' locker room was 68.5 degrees before LSU arrived Saturday and peaked at 74.7 degrees with outside temperatures in the high 90s in Austin.

"Swampgate has been put to bed," Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte said in a phone interview, coining a name for the week-long controversy.

He spoke by phone to Louisiana Tech AD Tommy McClelland, who said neither he nor Holtz had contact with anyone at LSU.

"I was just upset that we were being painted in the wrong light," Del Conte said. "We're the University of Texas and why we would do something like that. We make sure we fight these things with facts and not fiction."

During one Texas drive in the second half, there were five injury stoppages for LSU players, several apparently experiencing cramping issues. The stoppages drew boos from the Texas fans at DKR and afterward, Texas coach Tom Herman said he didn't know if the stoppages were in good faith.
