Texas DE Charles Omenihu considered Texans’ biggest draft steal

The Houston Texans’ biggest steal of the 2019 NFL draft was the selection of Texas defensive end Charles Omenihu in Round 5.

According to Draft Wire managing editor Luke Easterling, the Texans taking the 2018 first-team All-Big 12 member with the 161st overall pick was the organization’s best move for the value.

Omenihu does provide a combination of length and athleticism at 6-6, 275 pounds that should make him serviceable as a pass-rusher in his rookie season. He may not be great as an edge defender in his first season, as most trench players lack the strength right away due to not having spent an offseason in a NFL strength and conditioning program.

However, if Omenihu is a situation pass-rusher, much like outsider Duke Ejiofor in 2018, the Rowlett High School alumnus ought to be able to contributor for Houston.

Omenihu is the fifth former Longhorn the Texans have taken in their franchise history.
