Texas Cops Find Son of Murdered Prominent Couple Inside Their Home Holding A Gun

Leonard “Frank” Ragan, 73, and his wife, Jackie Ragan, 72

A Texas couple was murdered in their home by their son, who was then shot by arriving officers.

Police were called to the home of Leonard "Frank" Ragan, 73, and his wife, Jackie Ragan, 72 for a welfare check on Sunday, the Dallas Morning News reported. Inside the home officers found the couple dead from stab wounds.

In searching the home, police told the newspaper that they came across the Ragan's 34-year-old son, Bryce, who was holding a long gun in a bedroom in the home. Police opened fire on Bryce after he repeatedly ignored their commands.

Bryce Ragan was injured but survived and is in stable condition. CBS News reported that Ragan faces capital murder and other charges related to the incident.

Frank Ragan worked as the McKinney city manager from 2008 through 2010.

"I was shocked," Brian Loughmiller, a former McKinney mayor who worked closely with Ragan told CBS News. "Over the holidays, the vision you have of everybody is: it's such a happy time, a celebratory time. Just reminds you it's not always the case."

The Dallas Morning News reported that the welfare check on Sunday was phone in by out of state relatives who had not heard from the couple for several days.

"This is a tragic incident, and our condolences go out to the family," public information officer Darryl Saffold told the newspaper.

The newspaper reported that Bryce Ragan lived in Richardson. Police in Frisco had contact with him in 2018 when he was accused of theft between $100 and $750. That misdemeanor charge was later dismissed.
