COLLEGE STATION, Texas _ Cornerback Debione Renfro, the most experienced starter for the Texas A&M defense, has been suspended indefinitely, coach Jimbo Fisher announced Thursday.
Fisher said Thursday that Renfro violated team rules. When asked whether the suspension was only for the season opener, Fisher said he wasn't sure. He also didn't clarify what rule Renfro violated.
The Aggies open their season at home next Thursday against Texas State.
Renfro, a junior, started 11 games in each of the past two seasons. He was third on the team in pass break ups with five. He made 38 tackles last season. Charles Oliver, with 20 starts, now is the most seasoned player in the secondary.
But having new faces in the defensive backfield isn't a bad thing.
A&M's secondary was porous last year, ranking 98th in the country in pass defense, playing in a league not known for dynamic offenses.
Fisher met with the media Thursday and revealed the opening depth chart.
