Texans WR Will Fuller: ‘Still got some progress to make’ recovering from torn ACL

The Houston Texans have one of the best trio of wideouts in all of the NFL. DeAndre Hopkins, Will Fuller, and Keke Coutee all bring something to the table for the Texans offense.

However, the one defense that has been able to consistently shutdown Fuller has been his own health. The former 2016 first-round pick is recovering from a torn ACL sustained in Week 8 of last year, and Fuller admits he is not fully back.

“Yeah, I’ve still got some progress to make, but I feel really good,” Fuller told reporters Friday at Methodist Training Center.

Finishing with four touchdowns before his injury last season in eight games, it appeared that the former first-rounder was going to actually take off, especially since he caught seven touchdowns in four games with quarterback Deshaun Watson. However, Watson tore his own ACL that season, and Fuller caught 15 passes for 144 yards in the remaining nine games.

The deep threat Fuller provides complements the shiftiness of Coutee in the slot and the all-world presence Hopkins exudes on the field.

If Fuller does go down again, that may be the last straw for the former Notre Dame receiver. While the club picked up his fifth-year option in 2020, there aren’t too many dead money implications if the club decides to part ways.

For Fuller, a healthy start to camp, and an optimistic prognosis is just what the doctor ordered.
