Texans WR Keke Coutee thinks receiving corps can be dangerous

Houston Texans wide receiver Keke Coutee believes that the club’s receiving corps can threaten opposing defenses in 2019.

Coutee, who is the third option on a team that boasts All-Pro DeAndre Hopkins and speedster Will Fuller as starting wideouts, says that last year was merely a preview of what is to come with the Texans passing game.

“With all of us out there, it’s very dangerous,” Coutee said Tuesday during the second week of organized team activities. “Everybody got a taste of that last season. Everybody has to stay healthy. We’re adding these young guys who are out there competing every day as well. We’re going to have a real good receiving corps this year.”

The best taste came in Week 4 at the Indianapolis Colts. Coutee caught 11 passes for 109 yards, setting a NFL record for most catches for a rookie in his first career game. In addition to Coutee’s production, Hopkins caught 10 passes for 169 yards and a touchdown while Fuller produced 49 yards and a touchdown on four catches.

Though Coutee and company got a taste, they want to feast in 2019.

“I’m always hungry,” Coutee said. “My job never stops. That’s what I did last season, was just a little taste of what I can do. Like I said, that’s in the past and this is a new season, so I’m looking to get better any way I can.”

The only issues that could compromise the Texans receiving corps would be availability. Fuller is coming off of an ACL injury that summarily ended his 2018 season and Coutee battled hamstring injuries all year long.

Nonetheless, there is still great anticipation in Houston.

“I’m really excited to see what we can do,” said Coutee.
