Texans WR Floyd Allen feels blessed to join his hometown team

The Houston Texans love including players native to Texas. You’d have to imagine that, now there is a generation of players coming through who have grown up supporting the Texans, it can only be beneficial to have such dedicated and driven players.

Recently signed undrafted rookie wide receiver and Houstonian Floyd Allen took over the roster position left by veteran tight end Ryan Griffin after his recent release. The former Ole Miss Rebel spoke to the Texans Wire about joining his home side.

“It is a blessing to be a part of an amazing organization as the Texans and it is honestly a dream come to to play for a hometown team,” Allen said. “I’m excited about the opportunity to work with great vets like (DeAndre) Hopkins, Will (Fuller), and KeKe (Coutee).”

Allen joins fellow Texas native rookies Cullen Gillaspia and Charles Omenihu on the Texans’ roster. This preseason he will be fighting with fellow undrafted rookie receivers Johnnie Dixon, Stephen Louis, and Tyron Johnson, as well as Jester Weah, Steven Mitchell, and Isaac Whitney for roster spots.

The 5-9, 204-pound receiver has walked into a perfect situation from his point of view, with the Texans in need of depth at receiver with injuries hampering their group last season, to the point where third-string quarterback and special teams ace Joe Webb was having to lineup in the position.

Many will surely be hoping to see in Allen, another local, join the side.
