Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins is familiar with new WR Kenny Stills

Part of the Houston Texans’ blockbuster trade to acquire left tackle Laremy Tunsil from the Miami Dolphins is the addition of wide receiver Kenny Stills.

Though never a Pro Bowler, Stills has enjoyed a production NFL career. In six seasons of play — split between Miami and New Orleans — Stills has averaged 43 receptions for 690 yards and five touchdowns a campaign.

Stills will join All-Pro DeAndre Hopkins in the Texans receiving corps. Hopkins makes sure it’s known that “Stills is a good player,” as he said Monday night, via the Texans official website.

Both Hopkins and Stills are entering their seventh seasons in the NFL. Though they played at different colleges (Hopkins, Clemson; Stills, Oklahoma), Hopkins is familiar with his new teammate.

“I’ve known him since high school — actually, we played in the All-Star game together,” said Hopkins. “So I’m familiar with Kenny.”

What can Stills bring the table, according to Hopkins?

“He can make plays. Since I’ve been watching him, all he’s ever done is make plays for his team,” Hopkins answered.

Stills isn’t just a playmaker; he’s fast. At the 2013 NFL Combine, he ran a 4.38 second 40-yard-dash. His new teammate, Will Fuller, ran a 4.32 at the 2016 NFL Combine.

If one were to wonder who is faster, Hopkins isn’t the guy to give you an answer; all he knows is that both are speed merchants.

“I don’t know man. I don’t know,” Hopkins said. “Will is pretty fast, but Kenny is also [fast], so I don’t know. Not sure.”

Though Hopkins isn’t sure is faster, that doesn’t matter in the long-run. All that does, however, is that Deshaun Watson has a new weapon in Stills — one that his primary option is already familiar with.
