Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins caught flies as a kid to train his hands

Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins can catch anything. Whether it be a football — or the 115 he caught in 2018 —, sushi on an H-E-B commercial set, or even flies, Hopkins can come down with it.

Yes, flies. Those buzzing creatures that always tend to find themselves inside your car or home.

When talking to NBC Sports’ Peter King during joint training camp with the Green Bay Packers, Hopkins admitted to his rare fly-catching talent.

“This is something I haven’t told many people, because it’s embarrassing,” Hopkins said. “We always used to catch flies with our hands [as a kid]. I was the only one who could catch ‘em.”

It doesn’t matter how Hopkins catches them, he catches them.

“One-handed, two-handed. I actually studied flies. I’d watch ‘em. How do you catch flies? They fly up,” said Hopkins. “If I can catch that, I can catch anything.”

His logic isn’t wrong, Hopkins tends to catch everything. Flies are a new twist to that, though. But, if it works — hint: considering he had an NFL-record zero drops on 163 targets in 2018, it may be — it works.

So, the next time you have a fly in your house that you can’t seem to trap, call Hopkins; maybe he can help.
