Texans WR Chris Conley excited to see how receiving corps will produce in 2022

Much has changed with the Houston Texans in a year’s time, but there are still elements that remain the same.

The Texans’ receiving corps is one of them. Second-year quarterback Davis Mills can count on four receivers to suit up in 2022 that were consistently on the field during his rookie season in Brandin Cooks, Chris Moore, Nico Collins, and Chris Conley.

Conley told reporters Aug. 11 after training camp practice inside NRG Stadium that having a majority of the receiving corps carryover the same personnel helps with forging chemistry.

“I think that having the same guys that you’re working with providing that kind of consistency, we have good chemistry,” said Conley. “The guys get along really well. We know how to push each other, and we also know how to work with each other on the field.”

The Texans are running a different offense with Tim Kelly out and Pep Hamilton promoted to the role of offensive coordinator. Nevertheless the cohesion from 2021 helps out as the group learns a new system.

“I think that the Xs and Os changing is a positive for us, but continuing to have that consistency and knowing how to communicate with each other, how to communicate what we’re seeing on the field and what adjustments need to be made, I think that having that for another year is a really good thing for us,” Conley said.

Even though the Texans have undergone changes in a year’s time, the promise of a new season brings expectations of happier Sundays for Houston in the fall.

Said Conley: “I’m extremely excited. I can’t wait to get back out there, obviously new team, new offense, a lot of moving parts. But we’ve put in a lot of work, and hopefully had a lot of positive change, and we’re ready to see what that looks like on the field against another opponent.”

Conley caught 22 passes for 323 yards and two touchdowns through 16 games last year, 10 of which he started.
