Texans WR Brandin Cooks continues forging chemistry with QB Davis Mills

HOUSTON — After losing Tyrod Taylor to injury, Davis Mills has done a suitable job filling the void as the starting quarterback for the Houston Texans.

The rookie from Stanford has thrown for 270 yards while completing nearly 60% of his passes, and veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks has played a vital part in Mills’ modest success.

The quarterback-wideout duo spent additional time after practice enhancing their on-field chemistry ahead of their Week 4 match against the 2-1 Buffalo Bills.

“All of the receivers and pass catchers are working with him after practice, and I think that’s important regardless if he’s young enough,” Cooks said following practice Thursday afternoon at the Houston Methodist Training Center. “You get it after practice, but you’re also able to talk through what you’re seeing, what you feel. You necessarily can’t do that at the flow of practice, so you kind of get those opportunities after. I think we all do a great job at that. Not just myself, but all the pass catchers on this offense.”

Since taking his first snap in Cleveland, Cooks says he has seen Mills’ play and confidence grow. In the six quarters played after taking over for Taylor, Mills and Cooks have connected for 123 yards and a touchdown on 12 receptions.
