Texans Wire exclusive: RB Jay Ajayi considers Texans ‘great team with a lot of great talent’

The Houston Texans are in a precarious situation with a questionable backfield heading into training camp. Both starter Lamar Miller and backup D’Onta Foreman wouldn’t exactly qualify as durable.

Hall of Fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson suggested to The Texans Wire that he believes the Texans may consider adding another back soon.

One back who remains available is British born Jay Ajayi, a former Super Bowl winner with the Philadelphia Eagles. Ajayi was born in the U.K., but went to high school in Texas and he admitted when speaking to The Texans Wire at his youth football camp in Frisco, Texas on Saturday, that returning to his home state would be “interesting.”

“Obviously, my family is here,” Ajayi said. “And right now, looking for a team, that’s a great team with a lot of great talent. So, that would be an interesting thing if I was able to come back and play on a Texas team where my parents and family can easily come and support at any time.”

A former Pro Bowler, the 26-year-old was a fifth-round draft pick with the Miami Dolphins back in 2015. we asked Ajayi what he felt he could bring to the Texans backfield should he join.

“I’m a dynamic player, I believe competitive, I bring a spark to the game, and I love to win,” said Ajayi.

With four years under his belt and 2,516 regular season rushing yards to his name, Ajayi would add experience to a running back room thoroughly lacking it. Not to mention that the Texans do like to bring in players from the state.

Perhaps, Ajayi could be next. Training camp and preseason would be the optimal time to bring him in and get a few carries behind the Texans’ revamped offensive line. Nonetheless, being able to evaluate his talent would give them options in case injuries do strike Miller or Foreman.
