Texans Wire exclusive: LaDainian Tomlinson expects Houston to add a running back

The Houston Texans have faced many questions regarding their decision not to draft a running back, given their issues in the run game over the past few years.

Speaking to the Texans Wire on Wednesday at his football camp at TCU’s training facility, Hall of Fame running back and Chargers legend LaDainian Tomlinson admitted to the Texans Wire that he believes they may add a back soon.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if they add another running back,” said Tomlinson. “I think that’s one of the things that they’re probably looking at going into training camp and certainly as they start to play games.”

There are any number of free agent backs out there at the moment, with the likes of Jay Ajayi, Chris Ivory, Jacquizz Rodgers, LeGarrette Blount, Kapri Bibbs, and Darren Sproles to name but a few.

However, Tomlinson did go on to suggest a name the Texans should be looking at, even if he said it in a slightly joking manner.

“Who knows? Duke Johnson is unhappy,” suggested Tomlinson of the current Cleveland Browns back.

Johnson would certainly add more quality to this backfield in both the run game and as an extra receiving option, an element of his game that has proved fruitful in his time with the Browns.

With a new offensive coordinator heading into 2019, an improved offensive line, and a fully fit Foreman, this Texans offense could look extremely potent come September.
