Texans waive P Trevor Daniel, sign P Bryan Anger

The Houston Texans makeover continues with Bill O’Brien now fully in charge with yet another swift cut, enigmatic of their new management style.

After a disappointing Week 2 performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars, second-year punter Trevor Daniel has been cut by the organization and replaced by veteran Bryan Anger.

The former Tennessee Volunteer landed just two of 11 punts within the 20-yard line through Week 2, averaging 40.9 yards per punt. Ultimately, it seems his lack of a ‘big leg’ capable of pinning the opposition back sufficiently lost him the job.

The two players battled throughout training camp for the job with Daniel eventually winning out by the slimmest of margins. Back on Aug. 30 when the roster cuts began The Texans Wire covered the decision to go with Daniel over Anger:

The veteran averaged 47.2 yards per punt on ten punts this preseason, with the second year Daniel averaging 43.3 yards over nine punts. While Anger has shown the bigger leg overall, Daniel has been more consistent landing them within the 20.

Now, the Texans will go with the bigger leg.
