Texans vs. Rams: Point spread, over/under for Week 8

The Houston Texans take on another NFC West juggernaut for the second consecutive week as they meet the Los Angeles Rams Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Central Time at NRG Stadium.

The Arizona Cardinals extended their winning streak with a 31-5 win over Houston to move to 7-0 on the season. The Rams are looking for a win over their own over the Texans to reach 7-1 and keep pace with the Cardinals.

How do oddsmakers see this Week 8 matchup going?

According to Tipico, the Rams are favored by -14.5 points, making the Texans, not only the largest home underdog of Week 8, but the largest underdogs overall. The only team that comes close are the Miami Dolphins, who are +13.5 on the road against the Buffalo Bills.

The Texans have done horrendous on the road during the Davis Mills experiment with an average of 8.5 points per game. At home, they have been a little better at 15.5 points per game. Nevertheless, low-scoring affairs are the hallmark of his tenure.

The point total on the game is 47.5 points, the ninth-highest of Week 8. If the Rams are favored by 14.5 points, and the Texans score 15.5 points per game at home, then these numbers suggest a 31-16 type of game, which would be comparable to what happened to Houston in Week 3 on Thursday Night Football when the Carolina Panthers beat them 24-9.

Matthew Stafford has opened up the offense under coach Sean McVay, more so than Jared Goff ever could. With a quarterback that can make all of the throws against Houston’s Tampa 2 scheme, it isn’t out of the realm for the game to approach the over.
