Texans vs. Jets fourth quarter recap: New York rolls 21-14

Texans vs. Jets first quarter recap

Texans vs. Jets second quarter recap

Texans vs. Jets third quarter recap

Jets 8th drive (8 plays, 65 yards, 4:46) — [continued] On the first play of the fourth, DE Jonathan Greenard strip-sacks QB Zach Wilson, but the Texans can only push the ball out of bounds while trying to recover. New York can’t overcome a third-and-29, and ultimately settle for K Matt Ammendola’s 42-yard field goal attempt, which is wide left.

Texans 8th drive (3 plays, 7 yards, 1:04) — The Texans take all of the momentum from the strip-sack, the missed field goal, and go three-and-out.

Jets 9th drive (3 plays, -3 yards, 0:48) — Houston’s defense comes out motivated and limit the Jets to a three-and-out. CB Terrance Mitchell almost had a pick on the first play. DE DeMarcus Walker was slow to get up on the third-and-10 from the Jets’ 11. Wilson was also walking gingerly to the sideline. P Braden Mann has a terrible punt with 29 yards net up to the Jets’ 37-yard line.

Texans 9th drive (4 plays, 0 yards, 1:30) — The Texans, again, squander the momentum and go three-and-out. The Texans try for points with K Ka’imi Fairbairn attempting a 55-yard field goal, but he misses wide left.

Jets 10th drive (13 plays, 46 yards, 6:20) — RB Austin Walter was able to get a 13-yard carry on the first play. The Jets faced a fourth-and-4 from the Texans’ 37-yard line, and New York went for it. Wilson connected with WR Keelan Cole for a 13-yard gain. Jets coach Robert Saleh would not relent and was going for the kill shot, going for it once more on a fourth-and-1 from the Texans’ 15-yard line. The Jets had a holding call on first-and-goal from the 8-yard line, which backed them up first-and-goal from the 18-yard line. That was the drive-killer the Texans needed to have a shot. Ammendola hit a 37-yard field goal. Jets, 21-14

Texans 10th drive (4 plays, 8 yards, 1:29) — The Texans, again, go three-and-out. On a third-and-1, they hand off to RB Rex Burkhead, who loses two yards. Houston can’t convert on a fourth-and-2 from Houston’s 39-yard line.

Jets 11th drive (3 plays, 3 yards, 1:45) — The Jets effectively used the drive to melt the clock. Houston didn’t get the ball back until 20 seconds to play at their own 20-yard line.

Texans 11th drive (3 plays, 11 yards, 0:20) — The effort was akin to running out the clock to get to halftime, not try to win a game. Houston falls to 3-9, their second consecutive losing season since 2005-06.
