Texans vs. Falcons: Point spread, over/under for Week 5

Oct. 6 is a special day for the Houston Texans. Not only is it the anniversary of when the NFL awarded Houston NFL Holdings the 32nd franchise on that date in 1998, but it will also be remembered as the day in 2019 late founder Bob McNair was inducted into the team’s ring of honor.

Oh, yeah, and they are playing a consequential football game that day, too.

Why is the Houston Texans’ Week 5 match-up with the Atlanta Falcons of such significance? The Texans are 2-2, the same as all of their other AFC South rivals. Essentially, the past four weeks didn’t count in the division. While the Texans don’t have any ground to make up, similarly, they don’t really have a margin for error.

The Falcons won’t roll over. At 1-3, their season hangs in the balance like a loose tooth. One blow the wrong way could knock it out, and they would rather spoil McNair’s induction and drop the Texans to 2-3, the same record the Falcons would walk away with.

Houston is favored to win by 4.5 points, according to BetMGM, which are tied for the seventh-slimmest odds in Week 5.

The point total for Houston-Atlanta is 49.5, which represent the second-highest point total of Week 5. Only the Kansas City-Indianapolis Sunday nighter has a higher point total at 57.5.
