The Houston Texans will be rolling with a veteran Pro Bowler at running back in 2020 after all.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Texans have agreed to terms on a trade with the Arizona Cardinals that will send David Johnson to the two-time AFC South champions.
In 2019, running back Carlos Hyde filled in for Pro Bowler Lamar Miller, who tore his ACL in the third preseason game. Hyde rushed for over 1,000 yards for the first time in his pro career. However, like Miller, Hyde was on an expiring contract and the Texans decided to let him test free agency, same as Miller.
With Johnson in the backfield, the Texans will have a high level of experience, just the way coach Bill O’Brien likes it.
Johnson’s most prolific season was in 2016 when he rushed 293 times for 1,239 yards and 16 touchdowns while also catching 80 passes for 879 yards and four touchdowns. The former Northern Iowa product earned All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors for the season. Johnson dislocated his wrist in the first game of the 2017 season, and he has not equaled that same level of production.
