Texans to meet with self-proclaimed ‘best cornerback in the draft,’ Byron Murphy

The Houston Texans are meeting with Washington Huskies cornerback Byron Murphy Sunday evening, according to the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson.

The 21-year-old redshirt sophomore from Scottsdale, Ariz., also said he was the best cornerback in the draft, according to Wilson.

Houston needs help at cornerback, especially with the club prepped to shop former 2015 first-rounder Kevin Johnson. Moreover, the club is getting long in the tooth at the position with starting cornerback Johnathan Joseph set to turn 35 on April 16 and Kareem Jackson out of contract and 30 years old.

As the club does its due diligence, they will determine whether indeed Murphy can live up to his claim. The Texans need to be prudent in this endeavor as they also need offensive line help badly and ought to use their first-round or twin second-round picks to upgrade the offensive line.
