Houston Texans tight end Ryan Griffin was arrested Friday after reportedly punching through the front window of a Nashville hotel, just blocks from where the NFL draft is currently underway.
Griffin, 29, was charged with vandalism and public intoxication, according to a press release issued by Nashville Police.
Officers responded about 11:40 p.m. to a call of a disorderly person in downtown Nashville, where they found the 6-foot-6 tight end unsteady on his feet and bleeding from his left hand and fingers.
Security for Nashville's Hotel Indigo had followed Griffin to a point just over a block away from the hotel after he reportedly punched through the window.
The site is a few blocks across the Cumberland River from Nissan Stadium, home of the Tennessee Titans and site of the ongoing 2019 NFL draft.
Rather than issuing the six-year pro a misdemeanor citation, Griffin was arrested for his own safety, police said. He was released just after 7 a.m. Saturday.
Thousands of zealous NFL fans have swarmed the city for the revelry accompanying the annual draft, which, as Nashville's WZTV reported, has disrupted the bachelorette party plans of brides-to-be who chose the site unaware of the consequences.
"We come here to listen to country music, not hang out with football boys," one woman, identified only as Cara, told the station.
"I'll tell you who's going to pay for this," said her bridesmaid, Cyndi. "My husband. No football next season. No Super Bowl. Because my friend only gets married once, draft happens every year."
