Texans stars admire franchise, McNairs for enduring community involvement

The Houston Texans and their founders, the McNair family, have been heavy contributors to local charitable causes since the organization’s 2002 inception. And according to players both past and present, this says a great deal about the legacy of the McNairs.

“Everybody knows about the Houston Texans, but a lot of times people don’t know about the things that they (the McNairs) do behind the scenes and the money that they donate to this community,” said former Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson. “So it’s great, not only being the owner of a football team, but being able to affect your community, as well. So to see them do this is great.”

This comes after Texans co-founder and senior chair Janice S. McNair donated $5 million to Pro-Vision to help support the rejuvenation of Sunnyside and the Third Ward area of Houston.

Much like Johnson, current Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph also expressed his admiration for the McNair family following this donation.

“It just speaks volumes about everything the McNairs represent from an organizational standpoint, from a family standpoint and just what the City of Houston means to them,” said Joseph.

Another now-former Texan in attendance was safety Andre Hal. The recently retired defensive back discussed what this event showed about everything that the Texans have done for their community.

“A lot of people just throw money at everything, but they’re here, they’re always here,” said Hal.

“When I was with the Texans, we had a program that allowed us to help these kids come to a game. They always help these kids, and like I said, it’s not just throwing money at something. They’re actually here and I appreciate that.”
