Texans signing former Patriots RB Rex Burkhead

The Houston Texans are crowding their running back room with their seventh back added to the stable.

According to Nick Shook of NFL.com, the Texans are signing former Cincinnati Bengals and New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead to a one-year contract.

Burkhead played for the Patriots from 2017-20, rushing 253 times for 1,056 yards and 11 touchdowns. Burkhead also caught 96 passes for 856 yards and seven touchdowns through 41 games, eight of which he started.

The Bengals drafted Burkhead in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL draft from Nebraska. From 2013-16, Burkhead provided 87 carries for 375 yards and three touchdowns while catching 34 passes for 288 yards and a touchdown through 42 games, one of which he started.

The Texans already have David Johnson, Phillip Lindsay, Mark Ingram, Scottie Phillips, Dontrell Hilliard, and Buddy Howell on the roster.
