Texans sign former Raiders, Bills running back Taiwan Jones

He may not be a household name, but the Houston Texans have signed running back Taiwan Jones to both bolster their running back group and their special teams per his agent, Doug Hendrickson.

The 30-year-old has been in the NFL since being drafted in the fourth-round back in 2011. In that time he has spent six seasons with the Oakland Raiders and two with the Buffalo Bills, racking up 80 regular season appearances with no starts.

His time on offenses has been limited. Jones has just 183 rushing yards of offense to his name and 251 receiving yards.

The bread and butter for the Eastern Washington alumnus has been as a return man. Jones has recorded 1,890 kick return yards in total, although 829 of this came in 2015 with the Raiders, a career year thus far.

He will likely be fighting fellow running backs practice-squadder Buddy Howell and two undrafted free agents in Damarea Crockett and Karan Higdon for a place on the active roster. But, if he hopes to take over returning dutie,s he will have to beat recently re-signed wide receiver and return specialist DeAndre Carter to the job, a tough task.
