Texans sign former Jaguars punter Bryan Anger

The Houston Texans have made one more addition to kick off training camp. Former Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers punter Bryan Anger has joined the Texans in place of inside linebacker Drew Lewis.

The organization announced the move on Tuesday stating that Anger will wear No. 9.

With the team supposedly high on second-year punter Trevor Daniel, who ousted Shane Lechler in 2018 to win the starting job, it seems unlikely that Anger will make the ultimate 53-man roster. Chances are Anger will be a veteran presence for Daniel to learn from and competition to push him in training camp.

However, while Daniel had a promising rookie year he was somewhat inconsistent at times and so it isn’t out of the question that coach Bill O’Brien may see Anger as a potential starter.

Entering his eighth NFL season, Anger has made 112 appearances since being selected in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. The 30-year-old ranks seventh in the league with 189 punts inside the 20-yard line since 2012 according to the Texans PR.
