Texans sign former Chargers starting safety Jahleel Addae

The Houston Texans have dipped their toes back into free agency, signing former Los Angeles Chargers safety Jahleel Addae.

The 29-year-old had been with the Chargers since 2013, and in that time he made 80 appearances, 59 of which were starts. A former undrafted free agent, Addae has recorded 382 combined tackles, two interceptions, three forced fumbles, 21 pass breakups, and 4.5 sacks.

The strong safety had a career year in 2017 when he recorded 96 combined tackles, nine tackles for loss, and seven defended passes, all of which were career highs. However, 2018 was hardly a quiet year, starting all 16 regular season games for the playoff-bound Chargers.

Addae will provide depth for the Texans in a position of need after the departures of fellow safeties Andre Hal, Kareem Jackson, and Tyrann Mathieu this offseason. He will fight for a starting position alongside second-year starter Justin Reid with the likes of Tashaun Gipson and Briean Boddy-Calhoun.
