Texans sign Browns special teamers Tavierre Thomas, Tae Davis

The Cleveland Browns special teams units are losing two key components from the last couple of seasons, and both players are heading to Houston.

The Texans have signed CB Tavierre Thomas and LB Tae Davis to free agent contracts on Wednesday, the first day of the new NFL season. Thomas will get $4 million over two years, while the details of Davis’ deal have yet to be released.

Thomas made a name for himself as an undrafted rookie in 2018. When he got into the lineup on special teams the coverage and blocking starkly improved immediately. He got some chances at cornerback with all the Browns injuries and COVID-19 attrition in 2020 as well, but his appeal is his greatness on special teams.

The same is true of Davis, who played just 25 snaps on defense in 22 games over two seasons in Cleveland.
