Texans select Texas defensive end Charles Omenihu in Round 5 of 2019 NFL draft

The Houston Texans decided to address their defensive line in Round 5 of the 2019 NFL draft Saturday.

With the 161th overall pick, the Texans drafted Texas Longhorns defensive end Charles Omenihu.

The 6-6, 275-pound edge rusher was born in Houston but graduated from Dallas-area Rowlett High School. Omenihu produced 115 total tackles, 30.0 for loss, 16.5 sacks, a pass deflection, four forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery in his four seasons with the Longhorns.

Omenihu is a senior and has a degree in sports management. The Texans held a private workout for Omenihu during the pre-draft process.

With the loss of Christian Covington in free agency, adding Omenihu gives the Texans depth along the defensive line.
